History & Overview
The City of Kankakee is located 60 miles south of Chicago and was founded in 1854. Kankakee has a new and evolving downtown area with a large amount of historic architecture including two famed houses designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, the B. Harley Bradley House, and the Warren Hickox House which both still stand today. In the past few years Downtown Kankakee has seen a resurgence of small business and new developments. The Kankakee River runs through Kankakee providing vital resources to the community along with creating desirable fishing and boating conditions for everyone to enjoy.
